DHL Global Forwarding, the air and sea freight specialist, awarded Hamburg Süd as GoGreen Carrier Certificate for 2016 for its ecological engagement, said Hamburg Süd on its website.
The carrier received the highest ranking: four green ships. The company was notable for its CO2 efficiency measures since Hamburg Süd showed an above-average performance along more than five of the trades significant to DHL.
Hamburg Süd also has had its environmental data verified by independent third parties for the Clean Cargo Working Group for several years, which is evidence of its transparency.
According to DHL, Hamburg Süd was able to convince the jury with its engagement in the industry initiative Clean Cargo Working Group, among others, which aims to improve the environmental balance of container transportation.
Hamburg Süd has a transportation ban on more than 900 endangered animal and plant species, a majority of our new dry containers feature flooring made of fast-growing bamboo, and modern ballast water systems on board many of their ships that help them protect sensitive ecosystems particularly along the coastal regions.
Hamburg Süd has been awarded before for its ecological achievements. On June 29, the carrier received the Best Green Shipping Line award for the fifth time in six years, during the Asian Freight, Logistics and Supply Chain (AFLAS) Awards 2017, which are among the most prestigious accolades in the Asian transport and logistics sector.
