Asia’s top five ports

When talking about ports, Asian ports are leading the way, since 8 of the top 10 ports in the world are from this region –especially China-. They are the largest and the busiest. Here is our top five:

-Singapore Port:

Port of Singapores container traffic for June came in at 2.8 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), up 8.7 per cent from a year ago, according to the latest updates by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore. This brings total box throughput for the first half of 2017 to 16 million TEUs, a 6.5 per cent jump from 15.02 million TEUs in the same period a year earlier.

-Port of Shanghai:

According to 2013 annual report, the Port of Shanghai (the busiest port of the world) recorded a total throughput of 12.67 million TEU, a climb of 8.7 per cent compared to the same period in 2016. Year-on-year container volume jumped in 14.3% to 3.43 million TEU.

-Port of Hong Kong:

Hong Kong is one of the busiest and most efficient international container ports of the world. It handled 19.8 million TEUs of containers in 2016. The port provided about 330 container liner services per week connecting to around 470 destinations worldwide.

-Shenzhen port:

The Port of Shenzhen (CNSZX) spreads out alongside Shenzhen’s coastline, which is 260 kilometers. The port is separated by the Kowloon Peninsula into the eastern and western port. The port is roughly 37.04 kilometers from Hong Kong and 111.12 kilometers from Guangzhou. In 2016, the throughput dropped by under 1% to 23.97 million TEUs.

-Busan Port:

The Port of Busan is located at the mouth of the Naktong River in South Korea. It is the fifth busiest container port in the world and the largest transshipment port in northeast Asia. In 2016, the port handled a volume of 19.85 million TEUs, and for 2017, the port authorities aim to handle 20 million TEUs. The port has 26.8km of quay wall, allowing it to berth 169 vessels simultaneously and handle cargo of 91 million tons per annum.
